Andy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in May 1999 from James Madison University. He has worked in public accounting his entire career at firms serving the Washington DC and Richmond metropolitan areas. His experience includes working with closely held businesses and organizations in a variety of industries including real estate and construction, transportation, nonprofit, and manufacturing. His experiences in these industries include working with businesses of all sizes in both the assurance and tax fields. He also has an in-depth understanding auditing employee benefit plans.
Andy has presented on topics including Computer Assisted Audit Techniques for the annual “Virginia Society of CPA’s Audit and Accounting Conference” and been a guest speaker for several construction industry associations presenting on topics including understanding construction contractor financial statements and fraud issues for construction contractors.
Andy has been honored in Virginia Business as a Super CPA in the Young CPAs category. He currently serves on the Executive Committee and is Treasurer of the nonprofit organization Rebuilding Together Richmond. He is a member of both the Associated Builders and Contractors Virginia Chapter and the Associated General Contractors of Virginia and currently is on the membership committee and young leader’s council for these organizations.
Jody has over thirty-five years of accounting and tax experience. She began her career at the firm in 1994 and is currently a Senior Manager. Jody earned her bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Maryland and became a certified public accountant in the state of Maryland in 1984. She is a member of the Maryland Association of CPAs.
As a manager, Jody’s duties encompass managing a staff of accountants and prioritizing and assigning client workflow. She also has experience as a bookkeeper which augments her ability to identify and solve clients’ problems regarding income statements and balance sheets. Jody has serviced clients in a wide range of industries with an emphasis in construction, food service, professional service industries, and retail.
In addition to providing clients with general compliance services that include compilations, reviews, corporate and individual tax planning and preparation, Jody is an advanced certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. She has extensive experience installing, training, and providing troubleshooting services for clients utilizing QuickBooks® software.
Matt joined YHB in 2008 after graduating from Radford University. At YHB, he has focused his efforts on providing assurance and consulting services to private companies in the construction and real estate industries. Through his active participation in industry trade associations and continuous industry specific training and education, Matt has obtained a wealth of knowledge and a deep understanding of these industries.
As someone who has been actively involved in both the audit and attestation as well as tax services, Matt has a strong understanding of accounting issues that are unique to the industries he serves. He is familiar with their unique accounting and reporting needs, as well as industry benchmarks and best practices. Matt excels at analyzing financial statements and key performance indicators, and advising clients about ways to improve their accounting procedures and internal controls.
To further his commitment to the construction industry, Matt became a Certified Construction Industry Financial Professionals (CCIFPs) in 2018. The Certified Construction Industry Financial Professional (CCIFP®) designation is the only accounting certification for construction financial professionals accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under ISO 17024:2012.
Open communication with management throughout the year helps Matt establish a healthy, trusting relationship with the client. Frequent communication helps identify the client’s concerns and allows Matt to focus on areas that will add value to the client and address those concerns. His goal is to have a no surprise engagement that is characterized by a high degree of interaction with the client, which facilitates quick response to any issues as well as effective and efficient completion of every engagement.
Matt is on the Executive Committee with CICPAC (Construction Industry CPAs/Consultants Association) and an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Associated General Contractors (AGC), the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), National Association of Homebuilders, and Construction Financial Management Association. In addition to his active participation, he is also the current Treasurer for the Top of Virginia Homebuilders Association.

David joined Yount Hyde and Barbour in 1999 after graduating from West Virginia University with a B.S.B.A. degree. A tax specialist who works in depth with his clients, his focus is on banks and closely held businesses of any size. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. David is a designated Chartered Global Management Accountant. He has served on the board as both president and treasurer for many local non-profits and civic organizations including, Boys and Girls Club of Northern Shenandoah Valley, Millbrook High School Band Boosters, and Kiwanis Club of Old Town.
Offering an extensive array of services, he is a trained business mentor and coach, providing advanced levels of strategic planning for owners and managers, consulting with management on a variety of critical business decisions including accounting systems implementation, changes in business operations, mergers and acquisitions, and developing growth and exit strategies. David also specializes in winery and vineyard operations, auto dealerships, agribusiness, and franchises.
As someone who is not afraid to get his hands dirty by getting involved in the day to day operations of a business, David takes that internal working knowledge and applies best practices from across all sectors to help each client develop and achieve their goals. He has extensive knowledge of the challenges that business owners and financial operators face and will work side by side his clients to ensure they are informed and making the best choices possible to advance their companies.
He is proficient in numerous software packages. David excels at developing personalized financial strategies for each business he works to help them reach their goals of improved profitability, growth, and long term stability. Because he takes such a vested personal interest in all of his clients, David is most dedicated to minimizing the tax impact for all of the clients he serves.
David values the personal relationships that are formed with clients and works hard to maintain the lines of communication year-round. By taking the time to find out what makes people tick, he is able to effectively apply business and tax solutions to meet client needs and long term goals. Because the rules of the trade are ever-changing, David carefully advises clients from all angles, oftentimes thinking out of the box, but well within regulations, to provide the best possible answer and ensure client satisfaction.
David enjoys weekend vineyard tours with his wife, playing and coaching soccer with his daughters and outdoors activities such as biking, camping and hiking. In his free time, he likes to watch WVU sports and root for his alma mater.

Dorrie graduated from George Mason University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and later received her Master’s degree from the University of Phoenix in 2010. Since entering the world of public accounting Dorrie has focused on construction and small business on both attest and tax engagements. Dorrie previously acted as a controller in private industry, responsible for forecasting, budgeting, monthly close process, general ledger analysis and year-end financial procedures.
In addition to working on attest and tax engagements, Dorrie provides consulting services for clients with selection, execution, and training of various accounting process and software solutions. She utilizes her accounting and industry knowledge to aid businesses on deciding which tools to implement for current and future requirements. When doing this, she is able to leverage her technical experience with her unique understanding of the challenges businesses face.
Dorrie is an active member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Public Accountants. Patrick joined the firm’s accounting and audit department in November of 2016. He is a senior manager with the firm and has practiced public accounting since 2003. Patrick received a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and business administration with a concentration in finance from Towson University.
He is a member of both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Patrick’s areas of expertise include team consulting and serving small businesses in all aspects of their accounting, tax, and coaching needs. He has a passion for personal development, business process evaluations, and ever-evolving business industries.
Patrick is originally from Germany and moved to the United States in March of 1997. His hobbies include watching and playing soccer, home improvement, and landscaping.
Scott has been with Yount Hyde Barbour since entering the accounting profession in 1988. He has a B.S. degree in agricultural economics (emphasis in accounting) from Virginia Tech. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, as well as a volunteer for the Frederick County Fair Association.
He has extensive experience in providing accounting, tax, and business consulting services to closely held companies, corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies in the area. Over the years, he has worked with businesses of all sizes in a variety of industries, especially manufacturing, franchising, wholesale/distribution, retailing and agribusiness, as well as with the individuals and families who own and operate them.
As someone who grew up on a farm and was involved in his family’s business, Scott understands the challenges and needs of closely held businesses and what it takes to meet them. He specializes in helping businesses and their owners save tax, minimize risk, and operate more efficiently by using financial statements and projections as decision-making tools. He is especially skilled in advising YHB clients about financial controls and helping them negotiate favorable terms with banks and suppliers.
Scott has a hands-on approach to client service that’s based on taking time to develop an understanding of key concerns facing the client. Then, he works with the client to arrive at a plan of action he or she is comfortable with. In advising clients, he focuses on helping them understand how their money is being spent, so they can spend it more efficiently.
Scott enjoys traveling and spending time with his family, as well as helping out on his parents’ farm.
Theresa graduated from James Madison University with a BBA degree in Accounting. She is a licensed CPA with over 25 years of public accounting experience. Theresa has extensive knowledge and a proven track record of consistently and effectively delivering accounting services focused on enhancing the clients’ profitability and sustainability. She works with a variety of clients in various industries in preparing financial statements in accordance with current standards, performing audits, review and compilation procedures, and preparing tax returns.
Theresa is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is also active with the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Theresa’s strongest skills cover many aspects of financial reporting and taxation, including laws, cost control principals, ledger analysis, financial statements, budging, taxation, and economic regulations. She often consults with clients regarding tax planning, implementation of general accounting principles and improving internal control processes in order to identify and deliver tax and advisory solutions to help them achieve their goals.
Chris joined YHB in 2001 with a B.S. in finance, accounting and accounting information systems from James Madison University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served on the Culpeper County Chamber of Commerce as a member, on the Board of Directors, as Chairman of the Small Business Committee.
Chris delivers a broad range of accounting, tax, assurance and business consulting services to clients throughout the Culpeper area, with a focus on the construction industry and small businesses. Besides helping to manage the firm’s Culpeper office, Chris is a member of YHB’s construction and business consulting teams. His experience includes preparation of financial statements and corporate/partnership income tax returns for private company clients, as well as service in the U.S. Navy.
Chris is highly skilled at helping the owners of small businesses set goals and develop strategic plans. He then continually measures performance to achieve those goals. His deep knowledge of business operations and management makes him adept at identifying ways for clients to increase operational efficiency and take advantage of growth opportunities, tax credits and profit enhancement strategies. He also excels at helping clients with tax planning and compliance, retirement and succession planning, and selecting and installing accounting systems.
For Chris, communication is the key to effective client service. So he talks at length with clients to determine their goals, understand their situations and gain insight into what’s happening in their businesses and personal lives. He then uses strategic dashboards, benchmarking, what-if analysis and other tools to track performance, identify areas for improvement and develop solutions that help move clients ahead. To keep clients on track and head off potential problems, Chris touches base with them frequently to see how things are going and to suggest ways to increase their success.
Chris enjoys spending time with his family, learning about new technology and the impacts it will have on business, and playing golf.

Chris joined Yount, Hyde and Barbour, P.C. in 2004 after graduating from Virginia Tech, where he earned a B.S. degree in accounting. During his time with the firm, Chris has focused his efforts on providing audit, review, compilation and tax services to clients in a variety of industries, including construction, government contracting, real estate and not-for-profit entities. Chris also specializes in assisting clients with strategic performance management, including the implementation of dashboards and overall process improvements.
Through continuing education and professional development, Chris stays up-to-date on the trends and changes affecting his clients’ industries and the accounting profession as a whole. He regularly speaks and writes articles on these relevant topics as they arise. In addition to being a licensed CPA, Chris has also earned a CSPM (Certified in Strategic Performance Management) designation through MentorPlus®. This designation allows Chris to provide value to his clients above and beyond tax, audit, and other compliance services.
Chris strives to take a “client centric” approach, where services are based on the actual needs of the client rather than a specific commodity or deliverable. By taking time to understand the operations of a business and its future goals, Chris is able to provide superior customer service and help clients avoid and plan for potential difficulties, rather than just accurately reporting on them once they occur.
Chris enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. His hobbies include exercising, strength training and running, as well as following Virginia Tech Athletics. He served as assistant basketball coach at Millbrook High School from 2004 – 2014.
