Stride Through Time for a Second Year
For the second year, Yount, Hyde & Barbour proudly sponsored a unique historic Richmond walking event – Stride Through Time. This fun event, hosted by Richmond Sports Backers’, was held on June 5, 2010. The event gave walking enthusiasts the opportunity to explore nine historic districts in downtown Richmond and experience over 400 years of history come to life before their eyes. The course participants adventured past many museums, historical sites and monuments. Around every corner there was something new to see, including costumed historical interpreters, antique cars, and live music.
Yount, Hyde & Barbour is passionate about encouraging a healthy lifestyle as well as giving back to the community that we serve. This 10K event serves both goals. Walking is a very healthy exercise that, when done regularly, can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and certain cancers. Sports Backers continues to see an increasing number of walkers participating in their race events. This 10K event for walkers not only gives participants an opportunity to participate in this community event, but it also gives them a tour of the city to remind them of the numerous local attractions available in Richmond while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
With the experiences our firm had at the first
Stride Through Time in 2009, Yount, Hyde & Barbour could not pass up the opportunity to be involved again this year. By sponsoring this event, we help showcase Richmond’s history and promote a healthy lifestyle in a very unique format. The overall attitude of the participants and volunteers was amazing. There was constant smiling and laughter lining the 6.2 mile course. Yount, Hyde & Barbour’s contributions were not just monetary. For the second year in a row the firm boasts 129% staff and families participation. Many of the staff and their families served at the YHB water stop, as course guides, and others handed out goodies at the finish line. Richmond Principal,
Elsie Rose, participated as a walker and stated that her favorite part was the historical interpreters outside of their respective landmarks, especially Edgar Allen Poe taking in tea with his Raven outside of the Edgar Allen Poe Museum.
The Yount, Hyde & Barbour family continues to find this event to be a great way to support our community and build teamwork.
Sports Backers has been voted Sports Commission of the Year award from the National Association of Sports Commissions for the second time in four years (2006 & 2009). Richmond is very fortunate to have such a dedicated and talented group of people.
